Welcome to Babelhouse Art, Culture and Language Centre – a Creative, Friendly and Outgoing Meeting Place in the Old town of Tartu!
Our training centre is located in the immediate vicinity of the town-hall square, Dome hill, museums and cultural institutions as well as the cosy cafés of Tartu! Making you all feel welcome!
Currently, we offer two courses which take place in English: 1. Art in Estonia and 2. a practical course Art and Creativity (the tuition is given both in Estonian and English, depending on the course participants).

Welcome to the course Art and Creativity!
The course will take place on 11 Wednesday afternoons (17.30 -18.50) in our cosy training centre in Tartu Old town.
You will be able to explore your creativity and enjoy the process of making art while testing the different techniques of drawing, painting, sketching, learning about the proportions of the human body, colour psychology, creativity and authorship in different areas of life, etc. The course will be given by our beloved artist Merike Sule-Trubert!

2. Art in Estonia
Welcome to the course Art in Estonia!
A perfect opportunity to acquaint yourself with Estonian art and culture, accompanied my study visits, meeting with contemporary artists, visits to museums and artist studios!
Some of the main topics of the seminars and lectures include for example:
1. Art in Estonia/ Estonian Art (Short overview of Estonian history with some parallels to European history), Art in Estonia from the 15th century to the 19th century.
2. First Estonian origin artists, educated abroad. Art education in Estonia - drawing classes in Tartu University (1803), foundation and development of professional art education in Tartu and Tallinn (20th century).
3. I half of the 20th century in Estonian art. Painting and printmaking.
4. Contemporary Estonian art 1950s – 2012, part I. Selected artists from different fields (painting, graphic arts, photography).
5. Contemporary Estonian art 1950s – 2012, part II. Selected artists from different fields (painting, sculpture, graphic arts, installation). Estonian artists in important international manifestations. Regular international art festivals in Estonia.
6. Art in Tartu. Contemporary artists who work in Tartu.
7. Video art in Estonia (Ene-Liis Semper, Jaan Toomik).
8. Estonian animation – international success (Rao Heidmets, Priit Pärn).
9. Estonian animation II (Kaspar Jancis, Riho Unt ja Hardi Volmer).

All our courses have an official training licence which means that for officially registered Estonian residents officially registered in the Tax and Customs Board, 21% of the course fee will be paid back by the Tax and Customs Board at the end of the year.
